Sydney, Australia

5 Days ~ 200 miles

I spent 5 fantastic days spent with Sydney Cycling Club. The final week of a family holiday to Australia provided a great opportunity to hook up with SCC. After previously contacting the club to obtain permission to ride I cycled on every club run, including a 100 mile special Sunday run.

Friday 15th November 2002 - 17 miles
First day with hire bike. Brand new 58cm Shimano Sora equipped unbadged bike. Not bad although a bit heavy. Rode several (seven?) laps of Centennial Park each lap being around 2.3 miles

Saturday 16th November 2002 - 22 miles
Met up with Sydney Cycling Club for Saturday club run. A fast and short 22 miles

Sunday 17th November 2002 - 100 miles
Distance: 100 miles Lucky me... the ultimate club run. Once a year SCC do a club run to Patonga, north Sydney up to the northern beeches, catch a ferry over broken bay and circle a national park. It was an fantastic 100 mile ride. It was a very steady pace as we started at 06:30 and arrived home at 15:30 with a stop for the ferry and lunch. See the photograph section on this site for more on this ride.

Tuesday 19th November 2002 - 18 miles
Club run out to Bondi beach. Again short (18 miles) but very hilly. Saw some high heart rates on the monitor but felt very strong.

Wednesday 20th November 2002 - 18 miles
Sneaked another club run in before my flight. Not many member turned up and in fact I barged my way on to somebody else's training ride. It was a very easy 18 mile ride.
