Cycling accident day 17

accident day 17.jpg

Finally took off the dressing under my eye. The wound is now dry and I'll no longer need to go and visit the nurse.

All scabs have gone and I'm using cream to help keep the wounds moist. It's now a matter of time to let them heal. I think most will be fine but the cut on my lip is the worst. It's an inverted V-shape and the skin under the V is not flat. Hopefully this will settle down.

All scabs have fallen off leaving behind rather fetching red marks and healing cuts. I'm told the cuts will heal and not leave scars.... but I'm not so sure. I have a cut on my lip and just under my chin. I thought there was a third one but I'm not sure where it is now! I thought it was under the large scab on my cheek but now it has dropped off I can't see anything major... may there is a faint cut?

The wound below my eye still needs to be dressed. It's now had various dressings:
- Aquacell - silver lined dressing
- Seaweed dressing
- Paraffin dressing

Well the black eye has settled down although not completely disappeared.

The big scab on my cheek has started to come away from my face so I've taped a bandage over it in an attempt to keep it on as long as possible.

A blob of dried blood under my eye has dropped off. However the wound under the steri-stips just under my eye is not forming a scab. It remains 'wet' and is weeping. I will ask the nurse to check it out tomorrow when I go to have my stiches removed.

In an act of solidarity my good cycling friend Dave has sent me this snap of his cycling accident. Some excellent similarities. It is good to know Dave made a full recovery and is back on his bike.

Accident day 5

The black eye is turning yellow now. I visted the nurse at my GP and she decided to remove my dressing and replace with simple steri-strips. She mentioned there was a 'hole' that needed closing :-0

I also had a check-up at the dentist. Apparently there is a small crack in my right incisor but nothing that warrants treatment of any kind. There is a chance that the tooth may die but only time will tell. If it does it may need root canal filling.

Scabs are forming nicely now. Not so nice is the flaking around edges. A sort of facial dandruff - lovely.

Oh, and I need a shave!

Accident Day 3

Bruising has come out a lot more, more swelling, more purple and more pain. The wound under the dressing has also been bleeding.

I've noticed that my jaw hurts when I eat and if I open my mouth to wide it hurts the cuts on my face.

I decided to change the dressing myself so now it's nice and clean!

Face Day 1

So here I go again.... another cycling accident, more road rash but this time with 3 cuts all to my face. The following series of blogs will track my healing process in words and pictures. I don't remember the actual accident in any detail. I was commuting home from work and a car decided to pull out of it's queue and take me out.

So naturally I got back on the bike and cycled home, then took myself to A&E where I spent 4 hours. They put 3 stitches in the cut on my lip and glued the other two. Put a dressing on the worst road rash and cleaned the rest.
